Raven Retreats Wellness Center History
In the fall of 2003, Linda received the diagnosis of breast cancer. Everything came to an abrupt STOP. Life went from being carefree, happy, busily working, and making money to a state of fear, pain, and feelings of worthlessness.
The doctors worked quickly to get things under control. Within a year's time, Linda had multiple surgeries, lost a breast, and had endured chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
When she finished all of the treatments, she received a graduation certificate. She told the doctors and staff that that was more important than any other graduation certificate she had ever been granted. She was so relieved. She could finally go home and life could go back to normal. Except it didn't.
Linda survived cancer, through the grace of God, but life was going to completely change. Linda had been reborn.
Chuck, Linda's husband, had also gone through his own hell; being by her side constantly through every step, every tear, and every bout of illness following the chemo treatments. Feeling so helpless and watching his love lose her zest for life and her inability to do the things she had done before.
His life changed completely. His life had become so stressed with his work and his worry for Linda that he was on the brink of a heart attack. His doctor, Linda's doctors, and the therapist he and Linda had been seeing all told him that he needed to reduce the stress in his life or suffer the consequences. What was he supposed to do? He had to re-evaluate his life.
He and Linda were going through a metamorphosis. Both were fighting to change as a caterpillar fights to change into a beautiful butterfly. Life will never be the same again for the butterfly. He will fly to new heights and bring beauty to others. Well, that is what Chuck and Linda decided to do. God had put them through a metamorphosis, a change into beauty and light.
God had great plans for Chuck and Linda and stood with them through every moment of the change and growing pains they had gone through and would continue to go through.
Life had changed forever, and, oh, how beautiful I would become. God knew and they were learning and listening to what God had in store. It became their life and their strongest desire to teach others how to move forward into beauty after a life-changing experience. Most humans are resistant to change whether it is perceived good or bad. Change is a scary proposition. We don't know what the outcome will be. Yet, change is inevitable.
